Pathway to Podium 2015

In April 2014 New Zealand’s first nationwide talent development programme “Pathway to Podium” was created. The programme identifies emerging athletes from a range of sports and ensure they’re better prepared to enter the demanding high performance sport system.

Pathway to Podium is a partnership between Sport New Zealand, High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ), National Sports Organizations (NSOs), and Regions; and supports selected emerging athletes through a national network of up to 14 Regional Talent Hubs. Each hub has numerous partners that complement what the hub can do to assist young athletes.

The hubs provide facilities where athletes from different sports can come together, attend educational workshops, and receive advice and instruction in various athlete performance support disciplines. A hub coordinator works with athletes, coaches, and NSO staff to develop individual plans to better prepare athletes for high performance.

Swimming is one of twelve sports included in the programme for 2015.
