The Mayfair Pools Oceania Championships synchronised swimming solo performances were on today with competitors from New Zealand and Australia competing in two age groups.
In today’s free routine performances were judged on execution, impression and difficulty with a score from their compulsory figures, the technical component which they performed on Tuesday, added on to give them their final result.
Australians Jemma Singleton (128.080) and Emily Rogers (126.916) took out the top two places on the podium in the junior age group (15 to 18 years) today, with Eva Morris (126.101) of New Zealand taking home the bronze.
In the 15 and under age group it was New Zealander Jazlee Thomas who claimed top honours with a score of 123.155 followed by Jodie Ah-Chong (120.705) and Rachel Presser (116.230) both from Australia.
In her fifth year of synchronised swimming Thomas says while her routine is fairly new she has practised it countless times.
“We train five times a week but one of those times is gymnastics which is for strength and conditioning,” Thomas said.
“We do lots of swimming, like laps for endurance and lots of the time we do the whole routine.”
Thomas and Rogers will be in action again tomorrow as they perform in the duo event together.
Tomorrow will also see New Zealand and Australia compete in the team events from 1pm.
