North Shore swimmer Helena Gasson is on target to retain a third title at the New Zealand Short Course Championships in Auckland today.
The 20 year old was the top qualifier in heats of the 100m individual medley in 1:03.38 ahead of United’s Gabrielle Fa’amausili who clocked 1:03.54.
Gasson has also qualified for tonight’s final of the 200m breaststroke although not a main event of hers she qualified fourth with the quickest time going to Caitlin Delany (Tasman) in 2:34.82.
Teenage star Fa’amausili will be out to defend to her title in the 50m freestyle going quickest in 25.46 while Daniel Hunter (Howick Pakuranga) was quickest in the men’s 50m freestyle in 21.97.
Commonwealth Games swimmer Ewan Jackson (Howick Pakuranga) topped qualifiers in the 400m freestyle in 3:48.53 with 16 year old North Shore swimmer Koene Smit second fastest in 3:54.88.
Ben Walsh (Capital) clocked 2:15.17 to be fastest in heats of the 200m breaststroke and Wilrich Coetzee (North Shore) was quickest in the men’s 100m individual medley in 55.26.
