A group of adult swimmers in Christchurch have found it’s never too late to take the plunge and learn a life skill like swimming.
In an Adult Beginners Class at Swimsmart each has a different story and motivation as to why they are learning to swim including wanting to be able to join in with the family playing in the water and to overcome panic when putting their face underwater.
They all agree though that the class was well worth signing up for with everyone able to go their own pace and go back to learning the basics.
One of these skills has been learning the correct way to breathe which one participant said has already made things much easier.
The group also concurred there was less peer pressure than they remembered from childhood lessons.
All of this group are making good progress, but as one participant says: “I’ve been in Swimsmart classes for four weeks and I am already gaining confidence, I say go for it! You never know until you try, it might not be as scary as you think”.
Swimsmart is a Quality Swim School and is Christchurch City Council’s learn to swim programme based at the Graham Condon, Pioneer and Jellie Park Recreation & Sports Facilities.
