The New Zealand Olympic Committee has confirmed nominations of four swimmers to compete in the second Youth Olympic Games in China.
Gabrielle Fa’amausili (Roskill, Auckland), Bobbi Gichard (Greendale, Hawkes Bay), Jacob Garrod (North Shore) and Michael Mincham (Waterhole, Auckland).
The four swimmers produced the highest rating performances at the New Zealand Age Group Championships this month based on the FINA points system.
The Youth Olympics will be held in Nanjing from 16-28 August with the swimming competition from 17-22 August. The swimming complex is housed within the stunning Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre.
Fa’aumausili and Gichard both competed in the Junior World Championships last year, where the Aucklander won the 50m backstroke and the pair has continued to push each other to outstanding performances.
Mincham, who is currently on scholarship at The Southport School on the Gold Coast, specialises in middle distance freestyle while Garrod was on the podium at both the age group and open championships in both breaststroke and medley.
The coach will be Josh Munro, the director of coaching at Roskill club, with the manager/coach Brigitte Mahan from North Canterbury Swim Club.
