World Junior Champion Gabrielle Fa’amausili will lead a 39-strong Kiwi swim team across the Tasman to take on Australia’s best in the 2015 State Teams Age competition in Canberra this weekend.
A New Zealand team has been invited for the first time to the short course event in Canberra.
The event is a team based competition, in which New Zealand take on state teams head-to-head in a variety of individual and relay events.
The event will be run as timed finals for swimmers under 18 years of age.
New Zealand will be led by Junior World Record holder Fa’amausili from United Swimming Club. She is the New Zealand age group record holder for the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m back and recently won gold and two silver medals at the Youth Commonwealth Games.
New Zealand age group record holder Eliot Lundon-Moore from Aquabladz Taranaki, who recently competed in the Commonwealth Youth Games, is entered in the 50m, 100m and 200m breast.
Satori Dobbie, Mya Rasmussen, Hayden Church, Xavier Hill, Caitlin Deans and Thomas Heaton are all currently New Zealand age group short course record holders and will be looking to make significant point contributions to the New Zealand team.
The 39 strong team is being led by coaches; Donna Bouzaid, Gary Hurring, Igor Polianski and Cameron Stanley.
The event starts on Friday and runs until Sunday at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
