Aquajet Swim School

The Aquajet Swim School operates out of the Splash Centre in Wanganui and is a SNZ Quality Swim School.

They have trained staff and have consistently large numbers enrolling for their learn to swim classes. These classes feed the Wanganui Swimming Club with their swimmers.

The Swim School Manager Christine Strichen believes there is more awareness from parents regarding safety around water, and this is evident by the classes being full.  The lessons they provide are structured and motivating and they endeavour to provide quality by keeping class sizes small and focusing on individual improvement.

She would be keen to speak to anyone who may be interested in becoming a qualified swim teacher to accommodate the growing numbers.  Her staff are good swim teachers who are keen to see people of all ages develop good swimming and survival skills, are dependable, patient and very reliable.

Christine and her staff believe that improvement comes through positive reinforcement, in a fun safe environment, where encouragement and praise are used in conjunction with consistent fair teaching.  They recognize that child readiness comes before adult expectation.

Inside their teaching pool room, there are colourful pictures depicting each level (e.g. tadpole, starfish, turtle, frog etc.) so children can see what they can aim for and see their progress from one level to another.

The Aquajet Swim School run early childhood classes every morning with parents and babies, pre-school classes Monday to Friday as well as Saturday, and two adult classes on a Wednesday night. They also run holiday programmes, aquarobic classes and green prescription.  They also have schools who do not have their own pools coming in for learn to swim lessons, as well as those who want to experience water safety lessons in a deeper pool.  Christine and her staff work hard to meet the needs and demands of the community.  The swimmers after their lessons can also enjoy the Splash Centre facility which also has a fitness centre, lane pool, hydroslide, fitness centre, lazy river, hydro-therapy pool and spa pools.
