Dylan Dunlop-Barrett’s goal for the Commonwealth Games is no surprise for any determined elite athlete, a podium finish.
Dunlop-Barrett said he aims to be on the podium with his 4x200m freestyle relay team mates as well as make the final in his individual 400m freestyle event.
With just over a month left before the Games begin Dunlop-Barrett is working hard to make sure his skills are up to scratch to take on his strong field of competition, focusing on his starts, turns and technique.
Dunlop-Barrett will have the opportunity to work on these things while at an altitude training camp with the New Zealand swim team in Sierra Nevada, Spain over the next couple of weeks.
“I love altitude training, it’s the best feeling coming down from altitude and breathing easily,” Dunlop-Barrett said.
“Last time I was in Sierra Nevada I walked up the mountain but didn’t quite get to the top. I hope to get there this time.”
Part of the London 2012 Olympic team Dunlop-Barrett is no stranger to the experience of an athlete village but is looking forward to “entering the village for the first time and meeting the rest of the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team”.
Glasgow 2014 will be Dunlop-Barrett’s first Commonwealth Games.
