For Pam MacDonald the 2016 Epic Swim is offering motivation on the road to recovery.
Earlier in the year Pam underwent treatment for breast cancer and is now using the 2016 Epic Swim as part of her recovery goals.
A keen swimmer Pam has participated in a few open water swims and small triathlons but was unable to swim while receiving chemotherapy.
Since getting back in the water in July Pam has gradually been building her strength and fitness back up.
“I had terrible fatigue after chemo so building up my fitness has been the main challenge,” Pam said.
Originally from New Zealand Pam has been living in Scotland for the past 24 years and with a trip planned to visit family in New Zealand in January the Epic Swim offered the perfect opportunity for some goal setting.
“Without having the Epic swim to train towards it would have been easy for me to say not today - I'll start tomorrow.
“Booking into the swim has definitely motivated me to get back into my swimming and get going again.
“I feel fitter and stronger and more like my old self. I am also raising money for Cancer research UK.”
Pam is competing in the Epic 2.5km swim on Saturday 9 January, 2016.
