A recent accident while training for the Taupo Ironman set Blenheim man Dave Grono on a path to competing at the 2016 Epic Swim.
A broken knee cap from a fall from his bike meant Dave’s plans to compete in the Ironman were gone but he was determined to find a new goal to work towards.
“I find I just function better if I set myself a goal to work towards,” he said. “I thought if I can't run and can't bike what is the toughest swimming goal I can set for myself? 2016 10km Epic Swim was the answer.”
Dave hadn’t begun swimming seriously until six years ago when he had wanted to enter a local triathlon, now swimming has been his main focus and helped him on the road to recovery.
Worried he would never compete in an Ironman again Dave was happy to report his knee is now much improved and he plans to be running again in the next few months.
