Session four of the State 2013 New Zealand Secondary School Championships drew to a close with Napier Girls High School and Auckland Grammar School leading the team point scores.
Auckland Grammar School edged ahead of the defending title holders Wellington College to take the lead in the male race by just 6 points. The two boy’s schools have a significant lead over Hamilton Boys High School sitting in third position.
Napier Girls High School has a comfortable lead in the girl’s competition with 546 points. Baradene College is the next in line with 378, and Westlake Girls High School has a small lead over St Cuthbert’s College to sit in third place with 309 points.
15 individual meet records were added to the 36 that have already been broken at the championships. Yeonsu Lee and Josie Kozyniak broke two records each in their respective age groups in the 200m individual medley and the 200m butterfly.
Other meet record breakers in the evening session included Kelly Scammell, Joshua Taylor-Martin, Hayden Church, Samuel Perry, Caitlin Johnstone, Flynn Jones, Edward Vos, Ruby Heath, Chelsea Ouwehand, Josh Pickett, and Erik Kahr.
Two further relay meet records were broken by Baradene College in the girls 16 and over 200m freestyle and Auckland Grammar School in the boys 16 and over 200m freestyle relay.
Lee continues to lead the girl’s individual medal tally with six gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, while para swimmer Daniel Gaualofa leads the male tally with six gold and two silver medals.
The championships conclude tomorrow at Waterworld, Te Rapa, Hamilton. The final session begins at 9am.
