Lauren Boyle has won the bronze medal in the women’s 800m freestyle at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Barcelona.
She swum 8:18.54, taking a further 1.5 seconds off the New Zealand and Oceania record she set in yesterday’s heat.
American Katie Ledecky, the outstanding American 16 year old, took the gold medal in a world record 8:13.86 from Denmark’s Lotte Friis.
It was Boyle’s third medal of the world championships, emulating the deeds of Danyon Loader, who won three medals at the 1994 world championships.
