On the last day of action at the Universiade in Kazan, open water specialists Charlotte Webby and Troy Balvert produced strong performances in the 10km event.
Like the pool events, the open water field was full of Olympians and top internationals.
Pacing is crucial in long-distance events and both Webby and Balvert managed themselves well.
Webby managed to stay with the main pack for most of the race, but the fast pace on the last lap proved to be too much for the Taranaki swimmer, finishing a creditable 12th.
Balvert, 21, was only three minutes behind the winner, recording a time of 1hr 59m 27s, to finish 20th.
The team now has a couple of days to enjoy the sights of Kazan before arriving back in New Zealand on Saturday.
