Day six at the World University Games saw only three Kiwis take to the pool for 50m dash events. Two-time Olympian Hayley Palmer progressed beyond the heats in the 50m freestyle, but was unable to gain a spot in the final.
Palmer, 24, was just outside her season best time in the heats, clocking 25.78, to enter the semi-final in 12th place. She improved her time in the evening to touch the wall in 25.66, but had to settle for a 12th equal final placing.
Laura Quilter produced another personal best time in the 50m freestyle, stopping the clock at 26.65, to finish 25th and improve her entry ranking by eight places.
Wellingtonian Emily McGill maintained her ranking of 31st in the heats of the 50m breaststroke in a time of 34.69.
Day seven is the last day of pool action before the swimming moves to the open water for the 10km events. Kiwi swimmers racing on day seven include: Charlotte Webby (400m freestyle), Matthew Glassford (400m Individual Medley), and the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay.
