World Uni Games swimmer leads Makos at Zonal Championships

Swimmers from 14 clubs throughout the South Island will represent the Makos at this weekend’s Zonal Championships.

With the generous support of the Brian Perry Charitable Trust the exciting one-day competition is back on 13 February 2016 in Auckland and comprises four zone teams with each including 20 swimmers 15 years and under and 20 swimmers 16 years and over.

The senior team will be led by Junior Pan Pacific team mates Andrew Trembath (Neptune) and George Schroder (Hokitika) as well 2015 World University Games swimmer Kate Godfrey (Neptune).

The line-up also includes Tasman’s Sam McKenzie who was in last year’s junior side and holds a number of national age group titles and records as well as picking up a gold and silver at the 2015 Australian Age Group Championships.

Featuring in the junior squad are top performers from the 2015 New Zealand Age Group Championships Kyra Forrest (Wharenui) and Hannah Bates (Selwyn).

The 2016 Zonal Championships will take place at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland on Saturday 13 February and will be live on Sky Sport 4 from 5.00pm with 160 swimmers vying it out for their respective zones.
