The first day of swimming at the World University Games kicked off in Russia overnight with some solid performances from the New Zealand team.
Laura Quilter was the best of the Kiwi’s producing a personal best time in the heats of the 50m Butterfly. Quilter dipped under the 27 second barrier for the first time in the heats, posting a time of 26.82, and progressing through to the semi-final where she finished 10th, narrowly missing a spot in the final.
There was also a strong showing from the women in the 400m Individual Medley with both Kate Godfrey and Emily McGill finishing in the top 16. Godfrey finished 13th in a time of 4:58.58, closely followed by McGill in 15th with a 5:03.93.
Action on day two includes: Matthew Hutchins (200m Freestyle), Emily McGill (100m Breaststroke), Matthew Glassford (200m Individual Medley), Hayley Palmer (100m Freestyle), Troy Balvert (1500m Freestyle).
