Gladstone School in the Wairarapa region of Wellington are making the most of being part of the Kiwi Swim Safe programme to make sure their students are getting quality swimming lessons at school.
Teachers from the school took part in a Kiwi Swim Safe workshop with Swimming New Zealand Education Advisor Sarah Gibbison before heading poolside to put into action what they had learnt.
Sarah was left impressed at the very successful lessons the teachers ran with many creative ideas to get their students submerging and floating and well-structured activities moving from kicking and gliding to arm strokes.
During Sarah’s visit she was also able to support teachers working with senior students on having a go at butterfly and tumble turns for the first time.
The junior students also put on excellent displays of games they enjoy in the water.
Gladstone School teachers and students all had a very positive attitude towards swimming which reflected in the lessons and the great overall level of abilities of their students in the water.
