Nearly 250 swimmers from 76 clubs from around the country will travel south to Invercargill next week for the New Zealand Division II Competition starting on Wednesday at Splash Palace.
The Division II meet is a long course (50m) competition for swimmers aged from 13.
The competition returns to the South Island after a successful event last year in Dunedin.
Canterbury West Coast and Waikato regions boast the biggest club representations with 11 clubs from each while Canterbury has the most swimmers, with 54 participants. Leading the way in Canterbury is the Wharenui Swim Club with 10 swimmers, while there are 9 flying south from Te Awamutu in the Waikato.
The Wharenui Swim Club will be looking to defend their title in the club points competition after dominating at the event last year ahead of Neptune (Otago) and TBSS City Central (Auckland).
Fifteen swimmers from five clubs in Northland – Bay of Islands, Bream Bay, Nga Papahu, Northwave and Whangarei – are making the long trek south.
Public are welcome to attend the competition which runs from Wednesday until Saturday, with heats from 9am and finals from 6pm each day.
