Five Swimming Finalists in Sydney

Five New Zealand swimmers made it through to finals on the third night in the pool at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

The best of them was Hamilton’s Bradley Ashby, the medallist from yesterday, who was fifth in the 200m backstroke. The Fairfield club swimmer clicked 2:07.27 in the final.

Auckland’s Georgia Marris (United) was seventh in the girls’ 400m freestyle in 4:26.84, while Wellington’s Ted Taylor (Karori) was seventh in the boys’ final in 4:03.92.

In the 100m butterfly Auckland’s Caroline Baddock (Laser Mt Eden) and Hamilton’s Sam Perry (St Peter's) were both eighth in 1:02.22 and 57.33 respectively.

Both New Zealand 4x100m freestyle relay teams finished fifth in their respective finals.

In tomorrow’s final day of competition at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre, Monique King (North Shore) and Grace Sommerville (Ashburton) will compete in the 800m freestyle, Braddock, Kelly Scammell (AquaGym), Ashby and Max Polianski (United) in the 200m individual medley, Aimee Moss (Howick Pakuranga), Marris, Perry and Julian Weir (AqauaBladz) in the 50m freestyle, Abbie Johnston (AquaGym), Natasha Lloyd (North Canterbury) , George Schroder  (AquaGym) and Ben Walsh (Porirua Aquatics) in the 200m breaststroke, and Cameron Blair (KiwiWest, Palmerston North),  Carter Edgecombe (Fairfield) in the 1500m freestyle.
