Koru the Kiwi was on hand at Inglewood Primary School recently to help celebrate the success of students in the water in Term One.
Inglewood Primary School has been involved with the Swimming New Zealand Kiwi Swim Safe Programme for four years and continually upskill their teachers with refresher workshops which provide them with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver swim and survive instruction to their students.
This summer Inglewood Primary School took part in the Kiwi Swim Safe Elite Professional Development programme, where Swimming New Zealand Education Advisor Cecilie Elliott spent three days at the school giving teachers more time to observe modelling and take part in joint teaching, asking questions and receiving feedback, both in the classroom and at the pool.
Teachers from the school have done a great job ensuring students enjoy their swimming sessions and providing progressions through all stages of learning swimming and survival skills.
At their school assembly last week, Koru attended and helped out prizes to the junior students who have made the most progress over the term.
Koru also congratulated the teachers on doing a great job of ensuring their students learn the basic aquatic skills, enjoy their swimming sessions and providing progressions through all stages of learning swimming and survival skills.
Inglewood Primary School is very fortunate to have a 20m covered pool, where most classes swim four or five times a week throughout term four and term one.
Also in term one, the senior students went to the Inglewood town pool (which has a deeper pool) where they covered both dry land and pool based survival skills. This included the use of life jackets, mock rescues, swimming in clothing and basic survival skills.
The school also held a junior swimming display for parents, along with swimming sports and a team of students also competed in the Town versus Country swimming championships held at the Stratford Pool.
The commitment of the staff at Inglewood Primary School towards their swim teaching is evident in the enjoyment and enthusiasm from their students towards swimming.
