Three swimming wins came from the 2016 Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards held at the TSB Bank Arena this week.
Mary Fisher (Tawa), Samantha Lee (Capital) and Marke Berge all received accolades for their roles within the sport.
Fisher received the Pelorus Trust Disabled Sportsperson of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row after another stand out season which saw her continue her success on the international stage.
Fisher was also a finalist for the Wellington Sports Med Sportswoman of the Year, of which she was the winner in 2014 and 2015. This year it went to Lee for her achievements in swimming and surf lifesaving.
Swimming’s other award winner on the night went to Berge who received the NZ Community Trust Volunteer of the Year Award.
Berge is the Chair of Swimming Wellington and has had a significant impact on the Organisation and the sport throughout the region regularly consulting with clubs and advocating for the swimming communities’ needs.
