Kiwi West Aquatics swimmer Mya Rasmussen capped off the end of the Australian Age Group Championships with a brilliant performance that saw her take home gold and break a New Zealand record.
After just missing out on cracking a broken record earlier in the meet, Rasmussen, 13, broke the national age group record in the girls 12 to 13 years 400m individual medley with a time of 4:59.78, wiping almost exactly two seconds off the old record of 5:01.79.
Her quick swim helping her bring home the only gold medal for the kiwis over the competition, and adding to the bronze and silver she had collected earlier in the week.
Mathew Myers of North Shore also added to the kiwi’s medal tally. Myers claimed silver in the boys 17 to 18 years 1500m freestyle on Friday, finishing in a time of 15:50.78.
The only other medal from the week went to Sam McKenzie (Tasman) who took home silver in the boys 14 year old 100m freestyle.
McKenzie also broke a New Zealand record in this event, first in the heats and then again in the finals he took even more time off the old record of 53.82 to cut it down to 53.50.
Other kiwi swimmers at the event were Thomas Heaton (Tasman), Tayla Harwood (Tasman), Sara Gane (Tasman), Caitlin Delany (Tasman), Cameron Blair (Kiwi West Aquatics), Sean Aitchison (SwimZone Racing) and Caitlin Deans (Neptune).
