Kiwi age group swimmers have shown their strength at the Australian Age Group Championships being held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre this week from 14 to 21 April.
Mya Rasmussen of Kiwi West Aquatics has had the best results so far from the small team of ten New Zealanders competing at the event earning a bronze medal in the girls 12 to 13 years 200m individual medley.
Her time of 2:22.05 coming very close to breaking the New Zealand Age Group record which stands at 2:22.00.
Myers also came 7th in the girls 12 to 13 years 100m butterfly, coming home in 1:06.53.
Another stand out performance in the first two days came from Tasman swimmer Thomas Heaton who claimed fourth in the boys 15 year old 1500m freestyle in a time of 16:16.48.
Fellow Tasman swimmer Sam McKenzie and Neptune swimmer Caitlin Deans also had strong performances in their events. McKenzie finished 8th in the boys 14 year old 1500m freestyle in a time of 16:49.64, bettering his personal best by more than 25 seconds while Deans finished 7th in the girls 14 year old 800m freestyle in a time of 9:10.92.
Also with a top eight finish was Cameron Blair from Kiwi West Aquatics. Blair ended up 6th in the boys 17 to 18 years 400m individual medley with a time of 4:32.44.
Other swimmers at the event include Matthew Myers (North Shore), Sean Aitchison (SwimZone Racing), Tayla Harwood (Tasman), Sara Gane (Tasman) and Caitlin Delany (Tasman).
The New Zealand swimmers will finish competing this Saturday.
