Lauren Boyle is mixing business with pleasure on her holiday in San Francisco, finishing fourth in the famed Tiburon Mile open water swim.
The three-time Olympian clocked 28:06 for the one mile journey in San Francisco Bay to finish behind four-time winner Ashley Twichell (USA) and fellow world champion Keri-Anne Payne (GBR) who fought out a near dead-heat. American former open water world cup champion Emily Brunemann edged out Boyle for third, with the Kiwi finishing sixth overall.
Fellow New Zealand swimmer Kane Radford has won the men’s title on three occasions. The Tiburon Mile, started in 1999, attracts around 1000 swimmers for the one nautical mile race from Ayala Cove off Angel Island in San Francisco Bay to the shore of Tiburon.
Boyle is back in San Francisco on holiday including a visit to her alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley.
