Just as young children need time to learn to crawl and walk, movement and skills in the water take time to develop sequentially.
Young children develop comfort in the water and competence in the foundation aquatic skills, i.e. submerging under the water, floating and safest practices in and around water, through repetition encouragement and modelling.
Swimming New Zealand’s Early Childhood Swim Teachers Award will provide you with the knowledge and skills to provide a child-centred approach to learning, active participation by the caregiver and teachers as well as sequential and developmentally appropriate aquatic skills, attitudes and knowledge.
The course also covers topics on safest attitudes and practises in and around water and aquatic education programmes that empower parents and caregivers to create safe, fun learning environments.
