For many, Labour Weekend signals the opening of school pools and the start of aquatic education for many Kiwi kids.
Swimming New Zealand is pleased to continue to provide professional development opportunities and support for school teachers across the country, helping them to deliver lessons on swimming and water safety.
For decades Kiwi kids have received their aquatic education from school teachers while at primary school, often having the chance to swim every day of the summer terms.
Swimming New Zealand Education Advisers across the country are available to deliver training, support and resources to school teachers, designed to meet schools specific aquatic education needs. We can run workshops after schools, at staff meetings and on teacher only days and are available to support teachers at poolside while students are in the water.
As a core member of Water Safety New Zealand SNZ believe all children should have the opportunity to learn basic aquatic skills that will enable them to enjoy the water safely but are also conscious that practical skills alone will not keep them safe in on and around water. For this reason, we also provide support and resources for school teachers enabling them to provide water safety education to their students in the classroom.
School pools play a huge role in ensuring our children learn Water Skills for Life and Water Safety New Zealand is on a mission to help New Zealand’s schools keep their swimming pools open. Click here to find out more.
As school pools open again for this summer please remember to contact your Swimming New Zealand Education Adviser to discuss your schools aquatic programmes and how we can assist you in the delivery of these.
