Charlotte Webby had a personal best result for an international 10km swim in Canada this morning (NZT), finishing 8th in the FINA 10km Open Water World Cup at Lake St. Jean.
Webby clocked in with a time of 2:03:52.4 and held her own in the group of top swimmers.
“It was tough racing, but I was really pleased to be able to stay with the lead pack and felt it was a good hit out for my lead in to Pan Pacs,” Webby said.
“It was my best result at an international 10km swim and the closest I have been to the winner.
“Really happy and looking forward to next weekend’s race where I can fix up some of the little things and make it better.”
In the men’s division Kane Radford was the top finishing Kiwi. He kept up with the leaders until the last 1500m and finished 14th in a time of 1:59:28.5.
Radford said it was good to just get some racing under his belt and felt he could improve on his next swim and is looking forward to stepping it up in the next race.
Troy Balvert was the other New Zealander competing at the event. He finished 16th in a time of 2:01:22.4.
The meet at Lake St. Jean attracted an overall 42 competitors from 13 countries.
The next race for the three open water swimmers is also part of the FINA 10km Open Water World Cup at Lake Magog, Canada on the 1st of August.
