Stratford swimmer Josh Gilbert sealed an outstanding week with his third victory at the Queensland Championships in Brisbane.
The 15 year old took out the 200m medley in 2:09.78, a second outside the national record, after earlier winning both the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
Eighty-six New Zealand swimmers from 33 clubs have been competing in Australia this week at the Queensland Championships and the Victorian Age championships in Melbourne, which finished on Thursday.
The other New Zealand medal on the final day went to Tauranga swimmer Lochlainn O’Connor from the Greerton club, who was second in the 15 years 100m butterfly in 56.72.
Four females earned finals on the final session with Hamilton’s Georgina McCarthy from the Hillcrest club fifth in the 14 years 200m freestyle in 2:07.77 and seventh in the 200m breaststroke in 2:44.07. She earned one medal and six finals this week.
Tauranga’s Ruby Matthews (Otumoetai) was sixth in the 17-18 years 200m butterfly in 2:19.02, while Hutt Valley’s Chelsea Edwards (SwimZone) was eighth in the 15 years 100m butterfly in 1:05.38. She finished with one medal and three finals.
Manawatu’s Mya Rasmussen (KiwiWest) was fifth in the 16 years 200m backstroke in 2:22.93 to complete and excellent meet where she won three medals and made five finals.

14 yrs 200m breaststroke: McCarthy 2:44.07, 7th.
