Webby leads way with open water victory in Australia

National open water champion Charlotte Webby has earned an early season win across the Tasman.

Webby, from the Aquabladz club in New Plymouth, won the open women’s 10km title at the New South Wales Open Water Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.

She won comfortably in 2:07:32 from Australian Sofia Jenson with Otago’s Stefannie Gillespie, who has been based at Matamata recently, third in 2:12:46.

Two other Aquabladz swimmers competed in Western Sydney, with Jordan Gadsby seventh in the men’s open 10km race in 2:03:41 while Troy Balvert was fourth in the open men 5km in 55:29.

Meanwhile Central Hawkes Bay swimmer Bevan Jacobs has won the 15 years division at the Victorian Open Water Championship off Williamstown in Port Phillip Bay. Jacobs took out the 15 years 5km title in 1:09:44.
