The North Shore Swimming club have shown their strength on the opening day of the Division II Competition in Rotorua.
The club led the way on day one from the 101 clubs competing at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. North Shore scored 737 points to head off St Peters from Cambridge, Coast from Whangaparaoa and Selwyn club from Rolleston.
Three male swimmers were multi-swimmers on the first day. Mannix Fraser, 13, from Oamaru club won the 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle; Michan Hunter, 16, from Palmerston North, won the 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly while Jack Brunning, 13, from Huntly won the 100m breaststroke and 400m individual medley.
In the females there were two multi-swimmers, Hannah Anderson, 15, from North Shore won the 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly while Madison Fuller, 14, from St Peters won the 100m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.
The top 10 clubs after the first day are: North Shore 737, St Peters 557, Coast 368, Selwyn 327, United 303, TBSS Central City 299, Napier Aquahawks 263, Howick Pakuranga and Hillcrest 260, Mt Eden and Fairfield 258.
The competition continues until Wednesday.
