The Eastern Districts, Canterbury West Coast, and Otago regions discussed the idea of purchasing a trailer to transport electronic timing equipment prior to the dissolution of the Eastern Districts region. Six clubs from the former Eastern Districts region amalgamated with the Canterbury West Coast region, and one club (Oamaru) with the Otago region.
It was agreed that Eastern Districts would be happy to financially contribute to the purchase of the trailer so it could be used to create a full portable electronic timing system to be used in multiple pools around the new region. In balance, the Otago region was also supported financially with a contribution for their new electronic score board.
The trailer build and design was organised by members of the Canterbury West Coast swimming committee. It’s able to house the touch pads which have been sitting in storage since the earthquake destroyed QEII pool, so it’s great to have them back out in use again.
Richard Bowden (previous President of Canterbury West Coast) played a large part in the process by contributing his own time and efforts into the build. He modified the inside of the trailer so it could safely transport the touch pads, scoreboard, and other electronic equipment. Richard also ensured the trailer was painted and branded as needed, all free of charge to the region, for which they are very grateful.
The trailer successfully transported the electronic timing gear to Greymouth for the Swimming Canterbury West Coast Memorial Meet recently. These swimmers were the first to try the complete new electronic system. It was very successful and Canterbury West Coast plan to get the trailer to more swim meets in the near future. It will be used in the Timaru Pool for Canterbury West Coast Juniors at the beginning of February.
