Lower Hutt teenager Mary Fisher finished an agonising fourth in the 400m freestyle final on the penultimate day of competition in the Paralympic Aquatic Centre in London today.
Fisher, 19, qualified fourth fastest in the S11 400m freestyle in 5:32.31, and returned to produce a superb effort in the final, setting an Oceania record of 5:22.09.
This placed her fourth and less than two seconds from the bronze medal earned by Italian Cecilia Camellini.
Fisher began conservatively but then settled into consistent 40 to 41 second lengths.
Earlier North Shore 17 year old Aine Kelly-Costello finished 10th fastest in the same heat as Fisher, clocking 6:27.02.
