The recent World Masters Games 2017 (WMG2017) has been touted the most successful of the event’s nine editions with 25,000 athletes hailing from 100 different countries competing from around the world.
The Games ‘sport for all’ philosophy bought together athletes from all walks of life – from first time competitors to past Olympians.
Over 1700 athletes took part in the pool and open water swimming events with more than 65 New Zealand Masters Swimming records being broken over the 7 days of pool competition.
WMG2017 event manager Kirsty Gibson said, “It was fantastic to see so many people involved in swimming from the competitors to the volunteers who helped make it happen. It was an amazing experience to be a part of”.
The WMG2017 also provided an opportunity for four of New Zealand’s great swimmers to catch up. If you can correctly guess what these four former swimmers have in common, you could go into the draw to win a $100 Swimming New Zealand Shop voucher.
Congratulations to Shelley Rowland for the correct answer that all four of these swimmers won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in the 200m Butterfly.
