As a result of an independent and comprehensive review, the role of Water Safety New Zealand (WSNZ) has been refined. It is to be the national lead organisation for the water safety sector. Its core function will include leading the development of a strategy for the water safety sector, policy development, advocacy (including media and communications), research, and monitoring, evaluating and investing in, and funding, sector programmes and activities.
To support the new role, WSNZ adopted a new constitution at its 2013 Annual General Meeting in October. Among other things, the new constitution has altered the composition and means of appointment of the Board of WSNZ.
The initial Board shall include:
• A Sport NZ-appointed Chair (as one of 3 independent positions)
• One Board Member nominated by each of the three Core Members (Swimming New Zealand, Surf Life Saving New
Zealand and Coastguard New Zealand)
• Two board members nominated by General Members
• A current WSNZ board member (as one of the 3 independent positions)
• An additional independent board member
Swimming New Zealand is seeking applications for the person for it to nominate to be a member of the WSNZ Board.
All nominees, including Swimming New Zealand’s, will be considered by WSNZ’s Appointment Panel in January and their appointment will need to be endorsed by this body.
The initial terms of the three Core Member nominees shall be one, two and three years respectively and the allocation of term shall be made by the WSNZ Appointment Panel. Appointees will be eligible for re-appointment.
Swimming New Zealand is seeking applications from persons who are passionate about water safety and possess strong skills in governance and knowledge of strategic planning, policy development and evaluation and/or media and communications.
If you are motivated to be at the forefront of change to support the development and increased effectiveness of the water safety sector in New Zealand and to further develop a positive new culture based on trust, collaboration and disciplined focus we welcome your application. The position is unpaid.
