Queensland-based New Zealander Andrew McMillan produced another excellent effort on the third day of the Australian Olympic trials in Adelaide.
McMillan finished second fastest to top qualifier Nick Darcy in heats of the 200m butterfly in 1:59.51. He was still more than two seconds outside the qualifying standard for the London Olympics but it proved an encouraging swim for McMillan.
Meanwhile North Shore’s Grace Francis was 19th fastest in heats of the 200m individual medley in 2:21.34.
Internationals are only eligible to swim in the heats at the eight-day championships, where New Zealanders can secure qualifying performances for the London Olympics.
