New Zealand swimmers Melissa Ingram and Glenn Snyders were both on the podium on the first day of the second FINA World Cup in Doha today.
Ingram won the silver medal in the women’s 200m backstroke behind Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina in 2:04.95, which was faster than in the opening round in Dubai, and again under the qualifying time for December world short course championships.
The North Shore swimmer, part of Swimming New Zealand’s High Performance squad, pushed into the top 15 times in the world this year with her swim today.
She was also fifth in the 200m freestyle final in 1:57.66.
Clubmate Snyders was third in the 50m breaststroke clocking 26.68s, which broke his New Zealand record by 0.2s set in the World Cup meet in Berlin last year.
Olympic 100m breaststroke champion Cameron van der Burgh won in 25.95 from South African compatriot Roland Schoeman.
Snyders was sixth in the 200m breaststroke in 2:09.47, while Cameron Simpson (Templeton, Christchurch) was eight in the final of the 100m freestyle in 49.38.
