Swimming New Zealand would like to formally announce the following athletes who have successfully achieved selection standards for the Pan Pacific Championships and Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Lewis Clareburt (Capital) leads the team of five swimmers selected for the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, Japan from 9 – 13 August 2018.
Clareburt alongside Daniel Hunter (Howick Pakuranga), gained automatic selection into the squad after achieving qualification standards on the Gold Coast.
Emma Robinson (Capital) achieved the qualification standard in the 800m and 1500m freestyle at this week’s 2018 Aon New Zealand Open Championships.
Matthew Scott (Enterprise) and Charlotte Webby (Aquabladz) will compete in the men’s and women’s 10km open water race in Tokyo.
Bradlee Ashby also achieved the qualification standard at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but has withdrawn from the squad due to injury and illness.
An impressive eighteen athletes achieved selection times for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships at the 2018 Aon NZ Opens on Auckland’s North Shore this week.
Taranaki’s Zac Reid from Aquablaz New Plymouth had a standout Aon NZ Opens meet, winning three titles in the men’s 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle in qualifying for the Fiji event.
The Junior Pan Pacific Championships will run from 23 – 26 August 2018.
The Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games are being held from 6 – 18 October where 32 sports compete over 10 days in the Argentinian capital.
Seventeen athletes achieved qualification times for the Games, but rules only allow for four athletes, two females and two males, to represent New Zealand in swimming.
The four athletes that will be nominated to the New Zealand Olympic Committee are Gina Galloway (Neptune), Erika Fairweather (United), Michael Pickett (North Shore) and Zac Reid (Aquabladz).
