Lewis Clareburt has continued his impressive 2018 form by breaking his own New Zealand record in the A final of the men's 400m individual medley at the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo.
Clareburt finished 5th with a personal best time of 4:14.27s, lowering his previous record set at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by 0.15s.
The gold medal was won by 2017 world champion Chase Kalisz (USA) in 4:07.95s followed by Rio Olympic champion Kosuke Higano (JPN), 4:11.13s with countryman Daiya Seto (JPN) winning bronze in 4:12.60s.
Earlier in the day Clareburt qualified 6th for final after finishing 4th in heat 1 with a time of 4:17.93s.
