ASHBY, HUNTER, HYDE AND COETZEE SMASH NZ OPEN RELAY RECORD

The men’s 4x200m freestyle team of Bradlee Ashby (North Shore), Daniel Hunter (Howick Pakuranga), Matt Hyde (Matamata) and Wilrich Coetzee (North Shore) set a new NZ record of 7:08.15s at the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Hangzhou, China on Friday to highlight the Kiwi teams weekend results.

On day 4 of competition, the quartet smashed the previous record (7:12.29s) set at the 2006 World Swimming Championships (25) held by Robert Voss, Cameron Gibson, Andy McMillan and Moss Burmester by over 4 seconds.

Quinton Hurley (Jasi) and Coetzee both posted new PB's on day 5.

Hurley who'd waited ten days to finally race, smashed his 1500m freestyle PB by over 5 seconds. Coetzee who has had a busy race schedule at the championships recorded a new PB by 0.89s in the men's 400m IM heats.
