On Friday 7 December, Koru and our State Kiwi Swim Safe advisors spent the morning collecting donations on the streets throughout New Zealand for Surf Life Saving New Zealand’s National Jandal Day.
The team were joined by local Surf Lifeguards and State Insurance staff. Over the past month, the local State stores and Swimming New Zealand have been running a Koru colouring competition leading up to National Jandal day. State displayed their Koru pictures in their store windows to be judged on National Jandal Day. This was a big hit with hundreds of entries for each store.
Koru was also very popular, with people offering to donate money to have a photo taken with him. Children and adults alike crossing the road to see Koru and offer donations. As people were donating money, there were comments including “The lifeguards do such a great job”, and “you never know when you might need their help” consistently being made.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand deliver the beach module of the State Kiwi Swim Safe programme, it is fantastic that Swimming New Zealand and State Insurance could show their support to Surf Life Saving in this way, and we look forward to continuing to both work with and support them in the future.
