Last year, Corey Main from Howick Pakuranga Swimming Club was selected as Emerging Swimmer and received $4,000 from the NZ Swimming Trust.
Main has set ambitious goals for himself this year. He is currently in his sophomore year at the University of Florida, where he has been successfully competing in American competitions.
He returned to the country for the NZ Open Championships that concluded today where he qualified for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 100m backstroke in a personal best of 54.47s.
The New Zealand Swimming Trust is committed to supporting swimmers like Corey. Each year the Trust makes grants to assist young swimmers. These grants, totaling approximately $20,000, will be announced after the NZ Opens.
Swimmers are urged to apply for grants, using the website application form here.
Applications close on 17 April 2014.
