Last week marked 1 year from the 2019 Aon Open Championships, which was held at the Sir Owen G. Glenn Aquatic Centre in Auckland last June.
With the 2020 Opens event cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic, we look back to last year and all the great moments from that event.
The championships acted as the qualifying event for both the 2019 FINA World Championships, where eleven New Zealand athletes competed and the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, where seven of our para swimmers competed.
A huge highlight of the event was witnessing five World Para Swimming records from Paralympian Sophie Pascoe. Sophie broke records in the Women’s S9 50m & 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly (twice!).
