The students of Nayland College in Nelson have been very busy lately following their attendance at a Swimming NZ Swim Teacher Award (STA) course.
Sixteen students attended the STA course and are now working towards completing their 20 practical hours. The students are working with Nayland Primary School assisting the children to swim each week and are also observing instructors that are teaching at Nayland Pool, ASB Aquatic Centre and Riverside Pool in Nelson.
The group participated in the theory sessions of the course, sharing ideas, brainstorming, and role-playing before heading over to the pool to put it all into practise. The students did extremely well in the pool, supporting each other through basic drills and activities, whilst having lots of fun and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones.
It was an excellent day, and was a real thrill to see our future swim teachers in action, learning the ropes and giving everything a try.
Thank you to the staff at Nayland College for organising everything for the course, and the staff at ASB Aquatic Centre, Riverside Pool and Nayland Pool for welcoming these students into their facilities and supporting them through their swimming observations.
We look forward to continuing to work with you all in the future.
