New Zealand swimmer Nathan Capp finished off the pace in the finals of the 1500m freestyle at the FINA World Short Course Championships in Doha.
Capp, from the Greerton club in Tauranga, was not able to reproduce his brilliant recent form when he swam in the glamour final of the blue ribbon event on the final night of the championships.
The Tauranga swimmer, part of Swimming New Zealand’s high performance squad, had broken Danyon Loader’s long-standing national record recently, when he clocked 14:38.74 at the New Zealand championships.
However he could only manage 14:50:82 in the evening final, going through the midway mark in a solid 7:18.80, but unable to push on in the second half of the race won by Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri in 14:16.10.
