Fantastic feedback at CCS Disability Action Swim School is a common theme and one that they take pride in and strive to obtain going that extra mile for all of their customers.
Based in central Tauranga CCS Disability Action Swim School has been going strong for well over two decades in their outdoor, heated, all year round pool and have been a Quality Swim School (QSS) since Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) introduced it.
The swim school was started by Gaylene Johnson (Nan Nevin Master Teacher) who handed over the reins to Cath in 2013.
They are an inclusive swim school that welcomes swimmers of all abilities whose philosophy is "equal opportunities for all swimmers in a safe environment, learning at their own pace".
Gaylene was also a key person behind Swimming New Zealand’s Teaching Swimmers with Disabilities course which is very popular amongst swim teachers.
CCS Disability Action Swim School really do cater for everybody at their pool, from babies, pre-schoolers and school age groups to 1:1 hydrotherapy and they also have a number of adults using the pool for exercise sessions.
All of the team at the swim school have loads of training in the water which also includes SNZ’s Swim Teacher Award and attending and completing SNZ’s New Zealand Certificate Swim Teaching courses. Every year at least one team member from the swim school attends the New Zealand Swim Coaches and Teachers conference and enjoy adding new learning into their swim school curriculum.
The swim school have a very strong focus on water safety in their lessons and their water safety week each term is outstanding. From life jackets and boat safety to beach safety messages (including their own beach flags), to always swim with an adult and having a go at emerging over a steep river bank and swim through seaweed. The steps are a no go entry and exit point during water safety week and goggles aren’t allowed either, all that and more in 30 minutes!
CCS Disability Action Swim School is very family focused and also work strongly within the community and have been a part of many initiatives including Water Babies (SNZ and Sport BOP) and Green Prescription.
