The country’s best pre-teenage swimmers will group in Wellington for the New Zealand Junior Championships starting today.
The championships, for the second time staged at the single venue of the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, has attracted 457 swimmers from 83 clubs throughout the country.
The clubs from outside of the greater Auckland city will be chasing a slice of the success this year after the United club from Auckland finished on top in 2014 from Howick Pakuranga and North Shore.
Returning this year is Howick Pakuranga swimmer Jelani Freesir-Wetsell, who won seven gold medals last year to be equal top individual swimmer, while Tawa’s Joel Crampton, who led the male standings with five gold medals and one silver last year, also returns.
Competition starts at 4pm today with further sessions from 8am and 4pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday.
