Swim teachers from Southbridge Swimming Club and Southbridge School in Canterbury are working together to strengthen the link between school and club swimming.
Volunteer swim teachers from the club and school recently took part in a Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) workshop to refresh their foundation aquatic skills and stroke development.
Those from both the school and club were happy to take part in the course together as they share the vision of getting more children to choose swimming as a sport.
A number of the swim teachers already had plenty of experience in swim teaching as well as some already having completed SNZ courses and qualifications but were keen to refresh their skills.
A technique aspect of the workshop was very valuable to those teaching in the pre-squad area of learn to swim.
Taking the swim teachers through the course was SNZ Education Operations Manager Tracey Hickman who was pleased to see the club and school working together.
“It was great to see the collaboration between the school and the club. Currently there are a small number of students that move onto the club which is something they are aiming to improve.”
Southbridge Swimming Club is a summer only club and operates out of the local outdoor pool.
Southbridge School is a small rural school with around 175 students.
