Anderson Park in Napier played host to the "Celebrate Safer Napier Day" on Saturday 19th October.
The biannual event is run by the Napier City Council to bring organisations together to create awareness and support around building a safer community.
Swimming New Zealand was part of the day and was joined by the Napier Aquatic Centre and Water Safety New Zealand who shared a stand promoting water safety strategies, information around school programmes (including the State Kiwi Swim Safe and Sealord Swim for Life), education around water, and how to become a swim instructor using the Swimming NZ education pathway.
Other organisations present on the day included Coastguard, Boating Hawke’s Bay, the Fire Brigade, Plunket, the SPCA, and more.
The day was a huge hit with families coming out to enjoy the sun and see what the Hawke’s Bay has to offer. Children enjoyed face painting, bouncy castles and fun giveaways while parents took away important information regarding keeping Napier and those within it safe.
Swimming New Zealand would like to thank Renee Baaspul and her helpers from the Napier Aquatic Centre, as well as Roanne Poi from Water Safety New Zealand for their help throughout the day.
