The FINA World Championships are contested in a long course (50-meter) pool. The event was first held in 1973 and is now held every two years. From 1978-1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between Summer Olympic years. From 2001 on, the Championships have been held every two years, in the odd years. A total of 2,158 athletes from 167 nations will participate in the 2007 Worlds.
The 2004 Oceania Swimming Championships will feature 134 swimmers from 11 countries, and the USA State of Hawaii. This is the fifth edition of the Championships, and features competitions in: swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming (synchro). The synchro competition will mark the first time the sport has been swum in Fiji.

The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships is a long course swimming event first held in 1985. The tenth edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, is being held in 2006 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, from August 17–20.

The 2008 Oceania Swimming Championships are being held in New Zealand and feature competition in swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming. It is the 7th Oceania Swimming Championships and second time that New Zealand will host the event after playing host to the 2000 Championships.
The 2007 Summer Universiade, also known as the XXIV Summer Universiade, will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. The swimming competition will be from August 9-14 and will consist of 40 long course (50m) events (20 male, 20 female).
