This is the fifth edition of the Championships, and features competitions in: swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming (synchro). The synchro competition will mark the first time the sport has been swum in Fiji.

The Commonwealth Games is a unique, friendly, world class, multi-sports Games, which is held once every four years. The 2006 Commonwealth Games will include 17 sports, with 12 individual sports and 4 team sports. In total there are 245 events at the Games.
